Savitri Brata or Savitri Amavasya, the no moon day falls in in the Bikram Sambat month of Jestha. It usually falls in the month of June/July every year. Savitri Brata is observed in the form of fasting by married Hindu Odia and Maithil women. The fast is observed by worshiping and propitiating Devi Savitri, who saved her husband Satyavan from being taken away by the death god.
The married women observe the Brata with great devotion and dedication, and pray for long life of their husbands. They observe the fast-wearing new clothes and bangles, and applying vermilion to their foreheads. They offer the Bhoga and observe the festival with Savitri brata katha. After the worship, they take Bhoga after offering their respect to their husbands and elderly people.
Savitri Brata is celebrated in the premises of the temple premises with participation of the married Odia women residing in and around Pondicherry.
