Krishnashtami or Krishna Janmashtami festival is celebrated to mark the birth of Lord Krishna, the eighth avatar of Lord Vishnu, the most powerful human incarnation. This birth day of Lord Krishna also reflects spiritual resurgence and divine intervention against evils and tyranny. The festival also known as Gokulashtami, Srikrishna Jayanthi is celebrated on the eighth day (Ashtami) of the Krishna Paksha (Dark fortnight) of the month of Bhadrapada, usually in the month of August – September of the year.
The festival is celebrated with great vigour and passion by the devotees in the temple premises with chanting of Mantras and slokas and chanting of 10 names of the Lord Krishna. The function is also added with breaking of “Dahi handi “to mimic the stealing of butter by Krishna.
